Qualifications and experience
Dr Alex Perry is a doctor of Chinese medicine. He completed 5 years of full time study at RMIT University in Melbourne. As well as his double degree Bachelor of Applied Science (Chinese Medicine) and Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology) he also graduated from the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and completed his internship at the Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, China.
Dr Perry was part of the first study of acupuncture in emergency medicine in Australia. He was part of the succesful team using acupuncture in the Emergency department of the Northern Hospital in Melbourne.
Philosphy and Approach
Dr Perry believes in having an integrated approach to health care and combines his understanding of Western medicine with his Chinese medicine treatments. He works closely with other health care providers to develop a treatment that is best for the individual patient.
Chinese medicine uses an ancient approach that has been tried and tested over many centuries and is now being tested rigorously for safety and efficacy using modern scientific methods. Dr Perry supports ongoing research to ensure that Chinese medicine continues to develop and add value to the primary health care system.
Special interests
Dr Perry's special interests include gynecology and in particular fertility and pregnancy. He also has a focus on mental health, depression, stress and insomnia as well as related conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome and IBS.
He is also interested in pediatric conditions as well as the general practice of Chinese medicine.
Other skills
As well as being a doctor of Chinese medicine Dr Perry is the head of the Victorian Academy of Traditional Martial Arts in Melbourne. He holds the rank of 6th Dan Shihan and looks after the development of the school, its association and the senior students. He has developed a system known as the Black Dragon form which is a complete martial arts and healing system based on movement that is not only therapeutic, drawing its inspiration fom Chinese medicine, but has real life martial/self defence applications.
